Susanna Donato has spent more than 25 years turning complicated subjects into clear, compelling communications — and occasionally convincing people that fewer words really are better. A writer, editor and strategist with deep experience in financial services, healthcare, real estate and the nonprofit sector, she combines big-picture thinking with an eye for the details that make a difference.

As a senior member of the KS Communications leadership team since 2021, Susanna helps guide client strategy, directs content development and keeps complex projects and talented teams moving in the same direction. She enjoys the intersection of creative thinking and practical execution and appreciates both a good sentence and a good spreadsheet.

Susanna began her career at JohnstonWells, then Denver’s largest PR firm, working her way from researcher to account manager to staff editor. At New York City’s French Culinary Institute, she worked with culinary luminaries including Jacques Pépin and gained experience in the nation’s largest media market. She later built her own communications consulting practice, working with clients ranging from major medical centers and financial institutions to arts organizations and nonprofits. Along the way, she’s interviewed hundreds of experts, translated plenty of technical jargon into plain English and edited more than 20 book manuscripts.

Susanna studied at Barnard College and University of Colorado Denver, earning a BA in English literature. She’s a graduate of Leadership Denver and the Lighthouse Writers Book Project and a former board member and diversity chair at the Logan School for Creative Learning.

Outside work, Susanna is a creative writer, watches birds with considerably more enthusiasm than most people and shares her Denver home with her husband and two opinionated terriers.
